NZ Camping Tour - November 18-27, 2008

In late November '08, Amy and I went on a 10-day camping tour of New Zealand. We had an awesome time driving a clockwise route around South Island and up the center of North Island. I'm weeding out the best photos but there are still enough for several galleries. I'll mention the highways below so you can google along if you'd like. :)
DAY 5: We woke up at Twelve Mile Delta (Ithilien Camp in LotR), and spent the day exploring Queenstown and surrounding areas looking for Lord of the Rings locations :D. Late afternoon we headed north through the mountains via Crown Range Rd., Cardrona Valley Rd., and Highway 6 to camp at Kidds Bush DOC site on Lake Hawea. Photos here include Glenorchy (Isengard), Paradise (Lothlorien), the Arrow River (Ford of Bruinen), and Kawarau Gorge (the Argonath; photos taken at AJ Hackett's Bungee site on Kawarau Bridge).
DAY 6: We drove Highway 6 through Haast Pass and then north along the west coast to Greymouth, passing Fox and Franz Josef glaciers on the way. We camped that night at a holiday park in Greymouth. Unfortunately, it began pouring rain about the time we got to Fox Glacier so the glacier photo at the end of a drenching hike was the last of the day. Photos here include Kidds Bush (best skipping stone beach ever!!), Lake Hawea, Lake Wanaka, the Gates of Haast, Haast River, Arnott Point, and Fox Glacier.
