GALLERY 1
In late November '08, Amy and I went on a 10-day camping tour of New Zealand. We had an awesome time driving a clockwise route around South Island and up the center of North Island. I'm weeding out the best photos but there are still enough for several galleries. I'll mention the highways below so you can google along if you'd like. :) DAY 1: We flew from Auckland to Christchurch, picked up our Spaceships campervan "ET," and set off. We departed Christchurch mid-afternoon and drove southwest along highways 77, 79, and 8, finally stopping at the DOC campsite on the Ahuriri River (just north of Omarama) for the night. Photos here include Rakaia Gorge, the Lake Tekapo Scientific Reserve, Lake Tekapo, and Mt. Cook. DAY 2: We cut southeast then south along Highways 83 and 1, with a scenic detour along Tokarahi Ngapara Rd., headed for Dunedin. We camped that night south of Dunedin at the DOC Purakanui Bay site. Photos here include Takiroa, a little hilltop cemetary near Oamaru, Moeraki boulders, Dunedin, and Purakauni Bay. DAY 3: We headed west along Highway 1 to Balclutha, took the southern shore route to Invercargill, and then north on Highways 99 and 95 up to Te Anau where we camped in a holiday park for the night (had to do laundry and stuff!). Photos here include Purakanui Falls, Lake Hauroko, the Cliffdon suspension bridge, and lots of Fiordland scenery. |
