I finally got out on a tramp to the wild west coast! :) More specifcally, the Goldie Bush Walkway and Muriwai Beach. The day was quite wet and rainy (typical Auckland weather...sun for 10 minutes, pouring rain for 10 minutes, then more sun, then rain...rinse, repeat) but I managed to get some decent photos in between rain waves. Most of the photos are either of the beach just south of Muriwai, Mokoroa Falls (or the smaller falls on the way there), and Muriwai Beach.
I went with a small group of 12 from the Tramping Club and we did a loop along the Goldie Bush Walkway and Mokoroa Stream Track, then back up to where we parked at the head of the Te Henga Walkway (another trail I have to hike!). I'm not sure how far it was but boy did the climb back up the bluff kill my calves. I've been doing a lot of walking but I still didn't want to move for about 3 days afterward. *lol* The river loop was a real treat. "Numerous stream crossings" didn't mean 4-5, ankle-deep crossings. It meant a dozen crossings and at least half of them well deeper than the tops of our boots. Thank goodness for wool hiking socks as we squished along the second half of the trek. It's been a week now and I think my boots have finally dried out for the most part. Trust me that you don't want to stick your nose in them, however. :p Next time I'm sticking to the dry trail! |
