A Mother's Legacy

She sits in her chair
She sits all alone
Her face keeps changing
Between a smile and frown
Once so full of life
Once so happy and gay
Now an empty shell
She didn't want it this way

I wonder what's left
Where'd yesterday go?
Where is the woman
I used to know?
But I smile through the tears
And I'll carry on
For though she's not here
She'll live ever on

When everything is said and done
A part of her will carry on
Her faith in Jesus' loving arms
Her prayers to keep us safe from harm
Her wisdom passed down day by day
That's why I know that I can say
My grandma leaves on thing behind
And that's her legacy
A mother's legacy

She drives mornings to work
She drives evenings back home
Her feet are hurting
But there's more work to be done
The house is a mess
The ball game is at 6
The kids need to eat
So dinner too she must fix

I admire her strength
She kept up so well
Her arms always there
To hold when I fell
But someday they won't be
And I'll carry on
Her strength is within me
She'll live ever on

When everything is said and done
A part of her will carry on
Her faith in Jesus' loving arms
Her prayers to keep us safe from harm
Her wisdom passed down day by day
That's why I know that I can say
My mother leaves one thing behind
And that's her legacy
A mother's legacy

When everything is said and done
A part of them will carry on
Their faith, their prayers, their wisdom shared
The torch they lit now I must bear
I am the one they leave behind
And that's their legacy
I am their legacy
